As an alternative to an NTP server or via ISDN, you can also obtain the device time automatically via GPS. The prerequisites for obtaining the device time via GPS are:
- The operating mode of the mobile communication modem is set to WWAN
- The GPS module is activated
- The fetch method for the device time is set to GPS
The current GPS time can be found in the LANmonitor (Display of the GPS time) or in the status area of the device.
Note: This function is available only on devices with Sierra internal WWAN module. Please refer to the specifications of your model to
check if your device supports this function.
Important: Obtaining GPS time requires an active SIM card in the device. The time is not available until the device has successfully
performed a "GPS fix". This requires a connection to at least 4 satellites in sufficient quality.
Important: The time received via GPS may deviate from the actual time by several seconds due to runtime fluctuations and the non-observance
of leap seconds in the GPS network.
